Andover, MA (June 26, 2023) - The ALKU Foundation, part of Andover-based staffing firm, ALKU, is pleased to pledge a $25,000 one-time catalyst grant in support of Boston Partners in Education’s Raise Your Hand Campaign. This grant marks the largest donation Boston Partners in Education (BPIE) has ever received, emphasizing the commitment of the ALKU Foundation to uplift youth serving programs that promote equity and social progress for future leaders.
“We’re grateful for The ALKU Foundation’s continued partnership and their latest investment in our work, especially at this critical time for our organization,” shares Erin McGrath, Executive Director of BPIE. “As we work to cover expenses while building sustainable operating reserves, The ALKU Foundation’s support is more important than ever, allowing us to reach students who need our programs the most.”
BPIE is the longest-running continuous nonprofit partner of Boston Public Schools (BPS), offering academic mentoring to students in all grade levels and subject areas. The organization trains volunteers from the Boston community, who commit to spend at least one hour per week working one-on-one or with a small group of students.
BPIE provides critical mentoring services to over 1,000 students annually, at no cost to them, providing academic and social-emotional support.
The ALKU Foundation’s grant comes at a time when BPIE has reached an inflection point; the effect of COVID on both corporate and event-focused revenue models leaves BPIE in danger of pausing operations while rebuilding its financial sustainability. The Raise Your Hand campaign aims to secure $500,000 for BPIE before January 1, 2024. This funding will go directly to operational expenses and program costs, ensuring that BPIE’s critical academic mentoring programs continue to provide additional support to BPS students throughout the district.

Founded in 1966, Boston Partners in Education is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting students in the Boston Public Schools (BPS) through our in-classroom academic mentoring services. We prepare volunteers of all ages and backgrounds from Boston’s diverse neighborhoods to serve as academic mentors to students.
